There is something so poignant and touching about seeing a war memorial. I get all choked up thinking of all the men who died for what seems like nothing in the end. And most of them were young and not even believers in the cause. What a sheer waste of youth and hope.

Beautiful cemetery. A place where we go to remember our loved ones who are no longer with us.

      So true Alice.
This cemetery has a special connection. I grew up in this beautiful hill town located in the NE of India and spent a major part of my childhood here taking visiting friends and relatives to this memorial. The cemetery sited at the exact location where the Battle of Kohima was fought and hundreds of young soldiers lay buried. One cannot miss the famous epitaph—”When you go home, tell them of us and say, that for your tomorrow we gave our today.”

Where life meets death- Apt for the cemetery. Kohima is a beautiful place. Never visited but heard a lot.

This cemetery is sited at the exact location where the Battle of Kohima was fought during the Second World War. The cherry tree from behind which Netaji fought is still preserved in his cemetery. Yes, Deepa, it is very beautiful. Incidentally, I spent a large part of my childhood in Kohima. 🙂

It’s a cemetery, right….but beautifully carved. A reminder that death is not the end. The headline is powerful and wonderful play of words.

Yes, Vishal. It is a cemetery, a very hauntingly evocative place that is now maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The cemetery is located at the exact place where the battle was fought, and provides a very panoramic view of the town of Kohima, where I grew up. So, special connection for me.

That’s amazing to hear how it shaped beliefs and the quest for freedom. May be you should weave a fiction that will for sure win hearts.

Thank you! It happens to be a very beautiful place, a memorial maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, in what used to be a tennis court once upon a time before it became the battle ground of a fierce war that history remembers as the Battle of Kohima,

Esha I think we as a country are still cut off from seven sisters. Its only recently that travelers have started exploring this region. The place definitely looks serene.

You’re right. Shocking how little people know about their own country! My hometown once upon a time, where I spent a major part of my childhood, Arvind!

Then you are lucky, Esha. I’m sure you must be thinking a lot about this lovely town.

Yes, I often think about it.
