I realise at the end of my two weeks of travel that I am no longer the same person as I was, before I set off!   • Every once in a while, I look back at those magical years and it gets me all misty-eyed! . . This is Mr A at age four. Kovalam beach. The kid loved playing outdoors and while on holiday, would wake us up at the wee hours, pleading to take him down to the beach with his bucket full of toys! The sun was very strong and I was a bit hesitant, but seeing him make that “sad puppy look”, just had to give in. . . While I did carry a book to read that morning, I recall putting it away and getting down on all fours to play with him. We spent the best part of the morning playing on the sand and that look of pure unadulterated joy was too priceless to let go! . . The afternoon was spent in the pool with father and son playing in the water while I tucked into my book. Our joy didn’t last very long because by evening, the kid came down with high fever and wheezing. . . For the next three days, we stayed indoors mostly, ensuring medicines, inhalers and nebulisers were taken on time, to facilitate a speedy recovery. We played board games and read stories together, pausing to rest every once in a while. . . On our last evening, the hubby and I stepped out for a walk after dusk, and since the kid felt somewhat better, he decided to enjoy a little play time at the recreation centre, much to our relief, while we had a few minutes to ourselves before heading back to the hotel. . . Little kids are hard work, but it’s all worth it.
