WW Pic #21 – ‘Spartan Living.’
Sharing a pic from my recent visit to a dwelling that everyone will be able to identify. Like the heart in the body, this is the place which supplied energy to the entire country, during the freedom struggle. Hriday Kunj. Sabarmati Ashram, Ahmedabad.

Menaka Bharathi
wow! no words required to describe and you have not done it rightly. Loved this Esha!
Esha M Dutta
Thanks, Menaka. 🙂
Beloo Mehra
I visited there last year. Strangely, I felt more drawn to Kasturba Gandhi’s room 🙂 But the whole ashram is beautifully serene and has a great feel. I loved sitting quietly on the benches in the exhibition space.

It’s lovely, isn’t it Beloo? I did like Kasturba’s room too. Her kitchen was so bare and frugal living was the norm for them. I was in awe of the way they lived with so much simplicity. The exhibition area felt nice and open even on a crowded day. Even the back of the ashram overlooking the Sabarmati was beautifully serene.

Such a contrast between this and other leaders. Seeing Gandhi’s room gave me such a sense of peace.
Esha M Dutta
You’re right, Alana. That is what distinguished the man from the rest. Peaceful it is.
Vinitha
Awesome! Simplicity at its best.
Esha M Dutta
Thanks Vinitha. True hallmark of the man indeed.

This picture is symbolic of our own fight for freedom. So simple, yet so profound.
Esha M Dutta
True, Maliny. Amazing indeed that so much power came to the man who lived such a frugal life.
Lata Sunil
Beautiful. So sparse is needed to create a revolution.
Esha M Dutta
True, Lata. So different to the times we live in, isn’t it?
