#Skywatch Friday #7

Of the many things that I’m grateful for, after having moved to this part of the city where I live in presently, the one that comes foremost to mind is that of my East-facing balcony. I’m grateful that I can watch the sun rise every morning…. It’s so splendid to see the morning coming up over the horizon over rooftops and terraces and skyrises and the morning sky glowing through those red and orange clouds. It’s new every morning, and I feel as if I washed my very soul in that bath of earliest sunshine.

The moment when you first wake up in the morning is the most wonderful of the twenty-four hours. No matter how tired or worn-out you may feel, there is always the certainty that, during the day that lies before you, absolutely anything may happen. The possibility of it happening just means it is always there.

I usually rush around at this hour (thanks to the school run) as I have chores that simply cannot wait. However, not before savouring the quiet sunrise first, because that is when my energy reserves for the day ahead are topped up. Watching the sun rise is then a bonus.  I always try and find a few minutes to capture the morning sky in my lens or if time is a constraint, on my phone. It gives me a pleasure that few things can ever match!

Sharing some beautiful lines from Thomas Furlong’s Morning Meditations, that aptly sums up the morning scene.

Tis sweet as the day begins to dawn,
When the lark her song is singing,
To wander at will through the grassy lawn
Where fresh flowers around are springing.
’Tis sweet at that solemn hour to go
O’er the rocky slope, all alone,
Where the scattering streamlets freely flow…
’Tis well to inhale the earthly gale,
As it sweeps the green hill’s side…
Or to look on the wood in its leafy pride,
In the glen or on the grove, the dawn is fair,—
Morning is beautiful every where!

What is your early hour like? Do you like waking up early? Do the early hours make you happy or sad?

Wow! The sky is beautiful! I love sunrises and sunsets. I am a morning person but I’m generally at the gym before the sun rises…which means I miss out on the morning sky!

Thanks, Sanch! You have a good reason for missing out on the sunrise…Reminds me that I need to be regular at the gym 🙂

I wish I had an unobstructed view like you have. I would gladly wake up early and wait for sunset just to capture those colours. what an opportunity for nice photos.

Totally with you on this one Klara! You see I live in a rented apartment but it took me more than a month of house-hunting to get me here! When I think of having to leave this place someday, it makes me very sad 🙁 So, am making the most of my stay here building happy memories of the dusk and dawn to keep me happy later as well! Thanks a ton for visiting Soul Talk today and sharing your thoughts 🙂

Thank you so much, Parul! A month and more of house-hunting when we shifted to this rented place almost 6 years ago. The thought of leaving the place makes me want to capture all those lovely views before they are lost to me 🙁

      • Parul Thakur

I can understand. Which area is that?

        • Esha Mookerjee Dutta

Right behind IIM-B, off Bannerghata Rd.

Wow, this is beautiful! Where was this taken?
And yeah, I would be able to click only pictures of sunset. Given a choice, I wouldn’t wake up until noon! 🙂

    • Esha Mookerjee Dutta

Thank you so much, Shalini! This is shot from South Bangalore in an area adjacent to Vijaya Bank Layout! Even sunsets are gorgeous to click.
Funny you say that – my son also has similar thoughts, I have to literally drag him out of the bed on a weekend!!!

First I thought the red sky in the photo is on account of sunset because this is what I get to see every evening from my west facing balcony. I like the horizon taking yellow, pink, orange and red colours. Though I am a morning person but I have not seen sunrises in a long long time since I have not had east facing houses.

    • Esha Mookerjee Dutta

Thanks Anamika! The western sky has been astonishingly beautiful, over the last couple of days, so you are right about the gorgeous views every evening! That riot of colours in the early hours does something good to the soul I guess…

I love both sunrises and sunsets. Depending on the time of year, I may not see the sunrise but I am almost always around for the sunset. Beautiful pictures – I pinned on my Sunrise/Sunset board.

    • Esha Mookerjee Dutta

Thank you so much Alana! Sunset – that magical hour when everything drives home the fact that the day is ending soon! Glad you pinned the pics 🙂
